1.2 Discuss the functions and advantages of web application by evaluating different web applications. Facebook Once merely a hangout for college students, this powerhouse has become the go to network for family, friends, and even businesses and government entities. You can chat with your grandmother in Sydney, play a game of Bejeweled, post pictures of your wedding, and encourage people to sign up for your mailing list – all without leaving the site. Not only that, but Facebook has it’ s own advertising network, making it easy and cost effective to get your business in front of your target audience. Facebook also allows users to set up both private and public groups where you can dish about common interests and invite others to join the discussion. You also have the ability to set up “facebook pages” which are specifically designed for businesses and other entities. Google+ The new kid in the social media market has a lot to offer. Unlike Facebook, Google+ is not an all or nothing venue for sharing information. It allows you to pick and choose who can see your content, making it a bit like your Facebook wall with groups mixed in. Not only that, but Google+ gives you a lot more sharing space, whereas Facebook limits individual wall posts to 420 characters. Although Facebook allows you similar sharing controls with lists, these are far from easy to find and use. Facebook is in the process of introducing easier controls over sharing of information, probably in response to Google+ ’s success with Circles, so it will be interesting to see how this all pans out, but for now, Google+ gets my vote on this one.

1.3 Compare different types of server-side and client-side scripting languages by giving examples
Server Side Scripting
Client Side Scripting Server side scripting is used to create dynamic pages based a number of conditions when the users browser makes a request to the server. Client side scripting is used when the users browser already has all the code and the page is altered on the basis of the users input.
The Web Server executes the server side scripting that produces the page to be sent to the browser. The Web Browser executes the client side scripting that resides at the user’s computer.
Server executes server-side scripts to send out a page but it does not execute client-side scripts. The browser receives the page sent by the server and executes the client-side scripts.
Server side scripting is used to connect to the databases that reside on the web server.
Client side scripting cannot be used to connect to the databases on the web server Server side scripting can access the file system residing at the web server.
Client side scripting can’t access the file system that resides at the web server.
The settings that belong to Web server can be accessed using Server side scripting. The files and settings that are local at the user’s computer can be accessed using Client side scripting.
Server side scripting can’t be blocked by the user. Client side scripting is possible to be blocked by the user.
Examples-Server Side Examples of Server side scripting languages: PHP, JSP, ASP, ASP.Net, Ruby, Perl n many more.
Client Side Examples of Client side scripting languages : Java script, VB script, etc

1.4 Discuss about the concerns which are in taking into consideration by you when developing a web application
Performance In Web application
You should identify your performance objectives early in the design phase of a Web application by gathering the non-functional requirements. Response time, usage of CPU, memory, and Hard disk and input output Devices are key factors to consider when designing Application.
Interfaces
Application interfaces are important for user satisfaction.therefor we need to develop application interfaces user friendly.
Performance
Application must work with less memory, processing power using.
Testing method
Security
Security is the most important part in developing web application.appliction must developed with security .
Using the latest versions of technologies
Compatibility
Application must compatible with several Web browsers
Deploying and Maintaining a Web Application
After you have tested the Web application and are satisfied with its performance, you can deploy it to the Web server you make available to your users. Since a Web application is actually a set of files, you need to copy the virtual root and its file set to the production Web server. If your pages use the virtual root as the basis for their links, all links should still work. If your project includes a dependent project, you need to make sure the server component outputs are properly registered on the server. For more information about registering components, see Building Integrated Solutions.

2.3 Discuss about the client-side and server-side functionalities for the online community Server-side Server side functionality is the ability of servers to execute programs (Scripts) that generate dynamically changing web pages. Very common functionality is access to databases, perform database manipulation & generate dynamic web pages on-fly. This feature can reduce burden on client side computers while providing a common, more secure place to store data. Storage of data in a database in the server is required to host a database related website. We could easily achieve these functionalities By using a relational DBMS (e.g. MySQL, SQL Server,..) with a compatible server side script Language (e.g. PHP, ASP.NET). We need following server side functionalities in our online community project.
1. Storage and retrieval of students data (Photos, Comments, profile info.) dynamically.
2. User authentication.
I suggest using PHP with MySQL to achieve these functionalities. Client-Side Client side functionalities are the operations perform typically in the client side computers. These operations require no information that is in the servers. These operations are very fast and do not consume band with because all necessary information are in local PCs. We can improve user interactivity for our online community website by using java scripts. All major web browsers today support java scripts.

Customer Side Scripting Server Side Scripting
Server side scripting is utilized to make alterable pages based various conditions when the clients browser makes a solicitation to the server. Client side scripting is utilized when the clients program as of recently has every last trace of the code and the page is adjusted on the premise of the clients information.
The Web Server executes the server side scripting that transforms the page to be sent to the browser. The Web Browser executes the customer side scripting that lives at the client's PC.
Server executes server-side scripts to convey a page however it doesn't execute customer-side scripts. The browser gains the page sent by the server and executes the customer-side scripts.
Server side scripting is utilized to associate with the databases that live on the net server. Client side scripting can't be utilized to associate with the databases on the network server.
Server side scripting can access the index framework dwelling at the network server. Client side scripting can't access the document framework that dwells at the network server.
The settings that have a place with Web server might be gained entrance to utilizing Server side scripting. The documents and settings that are nearby at the client's workstation might be entered utilizing Client side scripting.
Server side scripting can't be obstructed by the user. Client side scripting is plausible to be obstructed by the client.
Response from a server-side script is slower as contrasted with a customer-side script for the reason that the scripts are handled on the remote computer. Response from a customer-side script is quicker as contrasted with a server-side script for the reason that the scripts are handled on the nearby workstation.
Examples of Server side scripting dialects : PHP, JSP, ASP, ASP.Net, Ruby, Perl n numerous more. Examples of Client side scripting dialects : JavaScript, VB script, and so forth.
Server-side scripts are more secured than customer-side. It straight speak with the server and react to the solicitation. For the reason that These scripts are significantly more savvy than customer side scripting. But there is no security in Client Side Scripts like that
In server communication complex courses of action are frequently more proficient there are security contemplations when sending delicate informative content does not depend on the client having particular program or cork-in influenced by the handling speed of the host server In customer cooperation reaction to communication may be more prompt utilities are secure dependent on the client having utilizing a particular browser or cork-in on their machine influenced by the handling speed of the client's workstation
